In 2017, she conducted her own independent undergraduate research project on dissolved oxygen dynamics in the backwaters of the Atchafalaya Basin applying classroom knowledge of ecological restoration principles and use of state-of-the-art electronic field equipment. Over the last 5 years, Skylar has completed 4 summer internships involving trail maintenance and erosion control in South Carolina, assisting with coastal marsh research in Louisiana, utility forestry consulting in Louisiana, and post-fire forest monitoring in Washington state. Skylar was hired by Natural Resource Professionals, LLC immediately following her graduation to aid in conducting field surveys, data collection and analysis, tree and shrub identification, and preparing summary reports.
